Los Angeles city firefighters were battling a fire at a former bank building in Boyle Heights Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 1:15 pm in the 1300 block of South Soto Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Smoke billowed from the building while 80 firefighters were on the defensive against the blaze, dubbed the “Soto Fire.”
A heavy fire was reported in the attic and quickly spread through the vacant and boarded-up building.
No injuries or evacuations were ordered, but Soto Street between Olympic Boulevard and 8th Street was closed amid the fire, officials said.
Los Angeles police officers also responded to the scene for traffic control. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
The one-story, 5,937-square-foot building was built in 1950, officials said.
A man was arrested near the burning building, Sky5 aerial video showed, but police and fire officials have not said whether the blaze is being investigated as arson.
