Large crowds converged on central London on Thursday for the beginning of 4 days of public occasions to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s historical Platinum Jubilee.

At 96, the queen is celebrating 70 years at the throne — essentially the most of any British royal, together with her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.

On Thursday afternoon, Queen Elizabeth gave the impression with members of the family at the balcony of Buckingham Palace right through the Trooping the Colour rite, and waved to monumental crowds of well-wishers.

Listed below are some scenes from the day.
