A woman trying to get to a library in Chantilly, Virginia, survived a terrifying attack and attempted rape, authorities say.
The woman went to the Chantilly Regional Library on Stringfellow Road on Monday, Sept. 26, but found it still closed, court documents say.
A man confronted her outside, removed a ring she was wearing and removed her watch from her wrist, documents state.
He started to go home to his nearby apartment but the attacker followed him, threw him to the ground and hit his head on the ground. He then tore off her clothes and tried to rape her, Fairfax County police said.
Officers were called to the area and tracked down 37-year-old Nolberto Sanchez Hernandez in the area. Police say the victim was in possession of stolen jewelry.
Sanchez Hernandez was charged with attempted rape, robbery and malicious wounding. Online court records did not list an attorney. Sanchez Hernandez is due in court on November 16.
