Moon Knight’s MCU Future Confirmed By Oscar Isaac

Although Marvel Studios has yet to confirm the character’s return, Oscar Isaac teases Moon Knight’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac teases his character’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney+’s Moon Knight series was released earlier this year, seeing Isaac make his MCU debut as the title character. He starred as Marc Spector, a mercenary with Dissociative Identity Disorder who must work together with his alter Steven Grant, his wife Layla (May Calamawy), and the Egyptian god Khonshu (voiced by F. Murray Abraham) to prevent the rise of the Egyptian goddess Ammit (voiced by Saba Mubarak).

While Moon Knight was generally well-received upon its release by both critics and viewers, the anti-hero’s future in the MCU was uncertain. It was unclear whether Isaac’s Moon Knight would return because Marvel initially promoted Moon Knight as a limited series and the six-episode season avoided including many tie-ins with the larger MCU. Still, Moon Knight episode 6’s ending introduced a third personality named Jake Lockley, implying that Moon Knight’s story would be continuing. This and the series’ positive reception led many to believe that Moon Knight was not the end of the supernatural vigilante’s MCU story.

Now, Isaac seemingly confirms Moon Knight’s MCU future. The Direct reports that the Moon Knight actor teased his character’s return while responding to a question about season 2 at New York Comic-Con this weekend. However, in typical MCU fashion, Isaac’s words seem intentionally vague. Check out Isaac’s response below:

“Are you looking at a Season 2? All I can say is it is not the last we’ve heard of the system that is Moon Knight.”

Where Else Moon Knight Could Show Up in the MCU

This year Marvel announced a full slate of future projects that extends to 2025, so there are many opportunities for Moon Knight to pop back up in the MCU if the character does, in fact, return. One possibility which is especially popular in online speculation is the upcoming Blade, starring Mahershala Ali. This option makes sense because the film is expected to explore more of the supernatural side of the MCU, making Moon Knight a perfect addition to the project. Spector and his alters could also return in a possible Moon Knight season 2. Despite originally marketing the show as a limited series, Marvel could still announce a renewal, similar to the studio’s current plan for Loki.

Of course, at this point, Moon Knight’s return is still mostly speculation. It’s important to note that Isaac’s response makes no mention of whether he will portray Moon Knight in future MCU projects and does not confirm Moon Knight season 2, but Isaac could be hiding more because of Marvel’s standard secrecy policies. Still, Kevin Feige did mention plans in 2019 for Moon Knight to appear in the MCU after the show, so viewers may see the character return sooner than they think.
